There are many different views. When talking about vampires. If fact, there are so many that there seems to be only one common; and that is that vampires feed of blood, but that is even debatable.
Sorry if it isn't direct or just leads in all directions. ^^;
Repulsion Of Vampires:
I believe that the repulsion of vampires can only be successful using their fears and poisons. ((like dealing with humans)). eg: Silver, apparently that works. A crucifix would only work if the vampire feared that religion.
The repulsion of vampires with the use of true faith is just a simple tale to secure members to a religion, or/and to help the ego of humans in general.
Helping ego? I mean that the use of “true faith” showed a level of control over nature, which helps many to feel superior. It has been shown in the past that many countries or followings are always seeking superiority over others.
This helping of the ego can also be revisited when talking about the use of fear to secure members to a cult. Stories have always been told to scare people in congregations, but not for fun. It was to help secure a level of control over the people within it and example is the story of hell. Hell; there wouldn't be so many Christians if there weren’t a hell, plus, in the middle ages, it helped to secure payments to the church.
The Powers Of A Vampire:
It is relatively safe to assume that a vampire would have psychic abilities. Why not? Humans have been shown to have made the evolutionary step, though many would be sceptical.
It was through that comparison, I was able to prove the possibility; but not the level of evolution. However, if you undertake the evolutionary view, you would also assume that vampires themselves would not have any major advantage over there pray. Other then what they have been evolved too.
Strength:
The reason why vampires would feed on blood, is for the nutritional value or a compensation for what they lack within their bodies.
It is known that fresh blood contains iron. Maybe this is it what they are compensating. Iron helps with the development of strong muscle, therefore, suggestion that vampire are not have superhuman strength. It would also help to explain the stereotypical pale skin, and the intolerance to sunlight.
Virus?:
Many believe that what makes a vampire a vampire, is in fact a virus. Spread like HIV, or any other virus; vampirism would be spread through the transfer of fluids. Though it would be better to say, that only through blood that vampirism is spread.
That is why it is often seen that the ritual of turning a human involves the human to intake the blood of their master. The ritual starts with the feeding routine.
The human is bleed to the point of near death, it is then that the decision is made. If the master wishes to turn the human, then they would continue with the ritual. The master makes a cut, or whatever, from which the human is forced to intake the blood. That is when the turning begins; but the ritual is not complete. It is important for the turned human to accept their new master.
If (s)he does not accept the rule or the master changes their mind, then the kid is killed. Otherwise they are accepted. ((oh.. “kid” is how I refer to new vampires ^^)
<There is bound to be more from me; but I do believe in the existance of vampires.>
