(Just a note: It's been ages since I've read the sixth book. So yeah... this may end up crappier than my D N Angel theory.)
Harry Potter: Snape: Good or No? Theory
First Year: Okay, Snape obviously is protecting Harry throughout the whole thing, though subtly - tis obviously being told by the Quidditch Match. Though he was the first to be suspected because of the way he treated Harry (Both from grudge and for self-preservation.) and because of his ex-Death Eater status.
Second Year: I've got nothing, other than his insulting Harry and giving them detentions.
Third Year: Made them write the essay about werewolves in hopes everyone would find out about Lupin and be careful around him... oh and to get back at Lupin as well. (*Sweatdrop*). He also went down to the Whomping Willow to save the 'Golden Trio' from Black and Lupin. Of course he wanted to capture Black himself and give Lupin his potion.
Fourth Year: Nope. ^^;
Fifth Year: Starts spying again, forced to teach Harry occulmency at Dumble's orders. Kind of helped sabotage Umbridge (Do you think he would really give her Veritaserum? I mean honestly. He's not stupid.) Relayed Harry's message about Sirius to the Order of the Overgrown Roasted Chicken and due to his spy status couldn't help fight.
Sixth Year: Promised Narcissa to protect Draco, kills Dumbles (Hallelujah! Happy days!), thus keeping his spy status - bringing him closer to Voldemort and half-saving Draco (Even though Draco's going to be punished later by Voldie.
Back in his day he would have chosen the 'winning side' and I'm guessing when he was at Hogwarts Voldemort was the winning side - and it's probably the winning side now, who would really put the weight of the world on a kid's shoulders? It's stupid.
Well, that's my theory... kinda. LOL Waaaaaay crappier than my D N Angel one.
